The aim of the popular Take Part books is to give children who are learning to read the opportunity to gain practice and enjoy reading aloud

The Take Part books are presented in playscript form and are adapted from well-known stories and tales. They are structured so that children who are at different levels within a certain reading range can all read aloud together, regardless of their ability.

Each character has a specific reading age. The reading ages of the leading characters vary from story to story, offering the poorest readers the chance to shine.

The Take Part books begin with the Tales for Two titles and progress through the Take Part Starters into the Take Part main series

Play Parts Series
Play Parts are a brand new series of plays designed to provide the playscript form of literature for year groups. They have been specially created by the authors of the bestselling Take Part series and the language is carefully graded to allow for mixed abilities.

Play Parts are set to become essential ingredients of the Literacy Hour. They are ideal for text level work during the Literacy Hour, when behaviour of characters, themes and story plots are explored. Plays provide the opportunity for active participation and group interaction in a unique way.

Play Parts titles are published in threes and the first three books form a science fiction trilogy, written for Year 5 (age 9 years). One play can be used to fill a twenty minute slot or the whole trilogy can be used when a longer performance is required.
